Great question. Bali’s much larger than you’d expect and getting from one region to another might take 2-3 hours in some cases, especially with traffic jams during the day. Driving from westernmost to easternmost ends is around 5-6 hours. See my very quick rundown of popular neighborhoods below.
In one week it’s possible to have 2 bases, though there are enough activities to stay in 1 place as your main base too.
As an example here are the places I’ve bookmarked on Google maps and you can see that bulk of popular “attractions” are concentrated south / central Bali. On Airbnb there are some interesting living options towards west Bali too, but just note it’d be more of a getaway experience as you’d be farther from the main areas where you can easily cafe or bar hop. Depends what you want.
